Welcome

This website is intended to provide an opportunity to view some of the twigs, branches and roots of a family tree that represents my ancestry or shares common descendant links.

While it is intended to share family history, this site only provides a basic set of information.

Years of Research

Backstory

I first became interested in my ancestry after reuniting with my biological father in 1979. I next located and visited his siblings, uncovering various family records, including the family bible.

During these early days, the scattered fragments of genealogical information I had gathered piqued my curiousity. I, in turn, became a member of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists in 1980 and remained a member for four decades. The resources and wisdom of fellow family historians within the Society assisted me to gather more information to nurture and grow the family tree found within.

Like every family there is a mix of the very rich and those who found making ends meet challenging to say the least. There are some who are decorated for military or community service while others ended up in newspapers for the wrong reasons.

I have found myself lucky to have a number of unique surnames in the ancestral families which have occasionally made research easier. Many of the family lines can be traced back to the late 1700s and early 1800s thanks to historic records and images now available online.

Genealogy

Genealogy begins as an interest,
Becomes a hobby,
Continues as an avocation,
Takes over as an obsession,
And in it's last stages,
Is an incurable infection.

Thanks

The work of researching and documenting people within a family tree never ceases. There are always new additions to the family being born, there are those who get married, and those who have died. I have been fortunate to have the support of many people who have contributed genealogical information concerning their family. I wish to sincerely thank those who have contributed to this genealogy by sharing their information.

Research Sources

My general approach to researching genealogy is as follows:

For descendants of a direct ancestor, migrating into New Zealand, I have endeavoured to verify the details provided in my family tree.

For all direct ancestral lines, outside New Zealand, I have obtained as much documentation as possible.

For families that descend from my ancestral lines, I have usually obtain this information from a variety of resources, much of which has not been verified.

For people that have married into my ancestral lines, I have no documentation apart from details of those marrying in and their parents.

Some of the information, on related English families, is sourced from 1851-1911 UK Census Records, IGI, or Birth, Marriage and Death Indexes. These resources are from online sites and as such will require verification. Some of the listed sites require a subscription.
